Basic Platform for Monitoring of Industrial Objects using wireless communications – M2MICS
aims to create an infrastructure allowing the implementation of management
systems and active monitoring of the parameters of the business sites. It is primarily aimed at industrial
applications, but it could be successfully used in other industries. Based on
the advanced technical solutions in the areas of communication and
process-control M2MICS aims at creating a class of hybrid microprocessor controllers
realizing management systems of technological objects and using internal and
external information resources.
Basic
platform allows implementation of fixed and mobile industrial complexes with
a high level of intelligence. Platform elements connected to the existing
installed capacity create prerequisites for increasing productivity and
controlling the work program of technological subsystems.
Basic platform for
monitoring of industrial objects allows expandability of technological lines,
adaptation to changes in production conditions and remote access to
production processes.
The design of control
systems based on M2MICS involves the Multinetwork,
including set of wireless local area networks (Technology layer). Technological layer is implemented as
wireless networks, which include different types of industrial
microcontrollers (Active Network Devices) in the quality of information nodes
(NODs). Parameters of these devices and the status of
their managed sites can be monitored or managed by exchanging messages over
networks. Thus collective management is implemented within the production
line and in conformity with technological program.
Communication between local
wireless networks of Technology layer is accomplished by the construction of
internetworking backbone realized through developed specialized interface RS 485+. The latter is a generalization of
the well-known RS485 and consists of a set of consecutive segments, each of
which is implemented as a wired or wireless RS 485 radio channel. The composition of each segment, acting as nodes, industrial
microcontrollers operating as coordinators of local wireless networks of
Technology layer are included.
There are two types of
operator stations developed – Main Operator Station (MOS) and Local Operator
Station (LOS) designed for programming development programs, control of
network structures and control of technological processes parameters and
performance testing of separate Active Network Devices. MOS functions as a
Master in the inter-network backbone, while LOS is connected directly to an
Active Network Device.
All Active Network Devices
have built-in communication tools ensuring their access to external networks
(GPRS / Internet, CAN bus). This allows their operation, both within the
Technology layer and as autonomous and / or remote devices performing
individual program.
Any Management System based
on M2MICS includes:
- Main Operator Station – MOS;
- Main wireless network of
active network devices (wireless industrial controllers);
- Local Autonomous Wireless
networks of Active Network Devices (these networks can be few or missing in
the case where the Main Metwork implements site
management itself);
- Local Operator Station -
LOS. The latter serves a specific Active Network Device.
The functions of different parts of
the Management System are as follows:
- MOS implements operator interface
with the Management System. It allows the operator to configure the various
networks and to program work of active network devices included therein. During
operation it monitors and controls network devices status. Another
important function of MOS is designing algorithms managing various sites,
and for this purpose there are software tools embeded,
which allow compilation and generation of a specific executable code and
its transport to corresponding controllers in real time.
- Main wireless network forms the
first layer of the Management System. It is connected directly to the MOS.
The coordinator of this network functions as Master of internetworking
communication interface implemented by RS485 +.
- Local autonomous wireless networks
implement parallel layers of the Management System. Coordinators act as
their slaves in internetworking communication interface.
- Active Network Devices operate as
routers in different wireless networks. Each of them performs specific
algorithms related to the requirements of a specific managed site. One of the
active network devices on a given network acts as a network Coordinator.
- In terms of
communication, Management System can be seen as a multi network, including
a set of local wireless networks, each of which manages a process. Multinetwork has a tree structure, and MOS is arranged
at the top of it.
Multinetwork supports and uses the following
interfaces:
- RS 485+ is a modification of RS485, including a set of wire
segments (opto isolated RS 485) and wireless
groups forming radio communication between them. All they form a common
backbone linking Coordinators of wireless networks of parallel layers of Multinetwork. This backbone can be seen as a logical
summary of a RS 485.
- Wireless interface JenNet (similar to ZigBee) is
used for the construction of local wireless networks (including the Main
wireless network). It connects wirelessly different active network devices.
- USB is a wired interface supported by each active network
device. It allows the latter to connect to LOS and managed / monitored by
the LOS. This interface makes the connection of MOS to the Coordinator of
the Main wireless network.
- RS 232 C is included in each active network device and is
designed to support work with an external GPRS modem. Thus, each active
network device is likely to make connection to a GPRS network and through
it to the remote TCP server creating a corresponding socket to it.
- TCP / HTTP is supported by the MOS.
For this purpose it has fixed IP address and an HTTP server is integrated
within.
